Electric Avenue

For over a century now, Harley-Davidson has built motorcycles that have become legendary benchmarks of design and function, and inspired countless others to explore the world on two wheels.  The look, the feel and especially the sound of a Harley has become as synonymous with the motorcycle lifestyle as riding leathers and the call of the open road.  That commitment to tradition and providing the ultimate riding experience for Harley’s family of riders is leading the next generation of Harley enthusiasts into the new technology of the 21st century.

Harley-Davidson Senior VP of Global Demand Sean Cummings recently told the Milwaukee Business Journal that the company will have a battery-powered bike on sale within five years.  This is exciting news for people who have been waiting for an electric motorcycle option from Harley-Davidson.  This follows in the tire tracks of the initial prototype in H-D’s electric bike stable, Project Livewire.

The slick-looking model made it’s debut in 2014 as a 74 horsepower bullet that would take you from zero-to-60 in under 4 seconds.  Recently, you may have caught a glimpse of the one Scarlett Johansson’s character Black Widow was seen riding with skill in the recent Avengers movie.  It was a cool-looking peek into the future of motorcycling, but it’s relatively short 50-60 mile battery life made for fun little sprints, but not so much a weekend cruise.

Details remain quiet on what the next generation of electric Harley’s will look like, but rest assured that H-D will stop at nothing to get their riders the fun they’ve come to expect from their machines.  Cummings expects the next generation electric bikes to have at least double the range of the prototypes.  Other specs (including price) are yet to be determined.  Stay tuned for more details and updates to pop-up as production begins and dates are officially announced.
